How to Choose the Oil and Fluids for a Plymouth Neon

The compact front-wheel drive Plymouth Neon was produced for model years 1995 to 2005. It was also marketed as a Chrysler and a Dodge vehicle in various markets. Available as either a four-door sedan or a two-door coupe, the Neon had several engine options. These steps apply to all model years of the Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler Neon.

Maintain proper fluid levels in your braking system with Mopar DOT-3 and SAE J1703 brake fluid. If DOT-3 brake fluid isn't available, you may use DOT-4. Using non-recommended brake fluids may result in damage to or failure of your vehicle's brakes.

Use Mopar ATF+4 automatic transmission fluid in your automatic transmission, manual transmission and the power steering reservoir as necessary and at regular maintenance intervals.

Change your oil at recommended maintenance intervals with API certified SAE 5W-30 engine oil. The engine oil you choose must meet DaimlerChrysler Material Standard MS-6395.

Mix 50-50 antifreeze coolant with distilled or demineralized water. Make sure to use Mopar antifreeze/coolant with a 5-year/100,000 mile formula and hybrid organic additive technology. While expert recommendations vary, they generally agree that you may use up to 70 percent coolant if you anticipate extreme cold temperatures, but using pure coolant would in fact degrade your antifreeze protection.
