Headlight lens covers can fog with age, or they can crack due to physical damage. Additionally, small holes in the lens cover may lead to excessive moisture inside the lens, which can cause headlights to frequently fail. The Volvo S80&039;s headlight lens covers are fairly simple to remove; removing them is actually necessary to perform a simple headlight replacement. Once you have the lens out, you can install a new one.

Instructions

    1

Push the "Engine Stop" button to shut your engine off, and then remove your key card from the ignition slot. Pull the hood release, and open the hood.

    2

Withdraw the two headlight pins from the upper-edge of the lens cover. You should be able to remove them with your hand; use pliers if you have trouble. These pins keep the lens in place.

    3

Pull the lens cover forward a few inches. Reach behind the lens, and unhook the wiring harness to separate the lens. Pull the headlight lens completely out, and place it on a table.

    4

Pull off the black bulb cover if you plan on transferring your bulbs to the new lens. If you don&039;t, you can skip this step. Once the cover is off, push the spring out of the way to free the bulb, and then pull the bulb back to release it. Repeat for the other bulb in the headlight lens.

    5

Insert your old bulbs or new bulbs into the new lens cover by pushing them forward and pushing the spring onto its mount. This locks the bulb in place. Snap the black cover on to protect the bulbs.

    6

Bring the new lens to your S80&039;s front end. Attach the wiring harness to the connection plug on the lens, and then insert the lens into place. Re-insert the locking pins to secure the lens.
