Whether you have a damaged 3000GT ignition coil or you just want to upgrade your engine to be more powerful, replacing the ignition coil in your Mitsubishi 3000GT can improve performance. Your options for replacing or upgrading the ignition coil depend on the year of your car and the engine in it.

Instructions

    1

Inspect your 3000GT ignition coil to determine what type of replacement or upgrade you need. Some upgrades may require an adapter in order for the ignition coil to work with your engine.

    2

Order the new ignition coil. You may need to wait a few days due to shipping, so if you can drive your car, you may not want to start the process until the part arrives.

    3

Detach the negative battery cable, also called the ground cable, from the battery terminal.

    4

Remove the fasteners for the ignition coil. You also want to disconnect the spark plug wires and the electrical connectors attached to the ignition coil. Make sure you know where these go; you need to put them back in their proper place in order for the car to work correctly.

    5

Separate the old 3000GT ignition coil and replace it with the new one. Make sure you have brackets for the ignition coil, if you upgrade to a different type of ignition coil.

    6

    Reassemble the parts you removed.
