How to Make a Spray Paint Testing Board

Before you begin painting your car or whatever the project may be using a compressed air spray gun it is a good idea to test out your spray paint pattern and also be sure your air flow from your spray gun is just right. A spray painting test board is really simple to make and takes very little time.

Instructions

    1

Find a good location for your test board being sure it will be in a ventilated area safe to paint in and yet without draft to disturb your test spraying. You may decide to hang the board from a wall or possibly set it up on stands. Maybe you will decide to just lean it against a work bench with the bottom of the board on the floor. You can use this board for temporary use or for a permanent placement, as you so decide.

    2

Drape out the drop cloth behind the board so that the plastic will extend out a foot or two from the board on all sides, and allow the plastic to lay out on the floor in front of the board if your board is set on the floor. The plastic will catch any drifting or dripping paint. You may have to staple, tack or tape down the edges of the drop cloth to hold it in place.

    3

Cut enough brown paper from your roll so that there will be enough to cover the entire board.

    4

Tape the brown paper onto the board using your masking tape. SInce the paper is meant to be removed and replaced, you don't have to tape every corner and edge so removal of the used paper will be quick and easy.

    5

Double check that the placement of your board will allow you to move around freely while test spray painting and you are ready to start testing!
