The Dodge Caravan is one of the most popular minivans among soccer moms, because of the mini-van's space and ease in handling. However, you need to make sure you lubricate the hatch door latch and hood latch every time you change your oil. The following process applies to Dodge Caravan's from the 1981 model forward.

Instructions

    1

Release the hood by pulling the hood release cord found near the foot well on the driver's side of the Dodge Caravan. Run your hand under the hood to feel for the release latch and squeeze to open. Secure the hood by inserting the hood bar.

    2

Wipe away dust, dirt and debris from the latch mechanism. Then, dig out any grime and grit that has made its way into the latch mechanism.

    3

Identify rust spots on the latch and remove it with sand paper or a wire brush. Then, spray with WD-40.

    4

Lubricate the hood latch on your Dodge Caravan using a spray on lithium lubricant, such as Zep White Lithium Grease. Make sure you spray around the edges, as well as, spray inside the latch mechanism. Test the latch and apply a second round of lubricant, if needed.

    5

Release your back hatch door latch by pressing the hatch release button found near the stereo, or by using your key or remote entry system. Clear out the debris inside your latch mechanism and vacuum around the hatch latch mechanism.

    6

Remove any rust spots and spray with WD-40. Lubricate the hatch latch using the same lithium spray grease you used to lubricate the hood latch.
