A broken dune buggy brake pedal should never discourage your riding plans. In just a few minutes, with the right tools, you can be back on the dunes. Knowing how to fix a dune buggy brake pedal can also help you decide whether or not to buy a used dune buggy.

Instructions

    1

Notice how the brake pedal is connected. The brake pedal has a slot on the bottom that corresponds with the hole in the rod that extends from the firewall. The two holes line up and a steel pin holds them together. If the pin is not secure, it can wiggle out and the brake pedal could fall off.

    2

Remove the gas pedal by unscrewing one side and unhooking the throttle hook from the back and lower the pedal down to rest on the floor of the dune buggy. Decide what size pin or screw you will use to reinforce the brake pedal. This should be extremely small. Using a small drill bit, small enough to only make room for the screw or pin, drill a hole through the rod and into the steel pin.

    3

Grind the end of the screw or pin to taper it enough to fit into the hole, if necessary, then place the end of the screw or pin in the hole you drilled. Use a hammer or mallet to pound the screw or pin into the hole until it is flush with the rod. Make sure it is not too long, or it will come out the other side too far and possibly hit the brake pedal set up.

    4

Re-attach the gas pedal by reconnecting the throttle hook to the back of the gas pedal and placing the screw back into the side. Screw the gas pedal screw back into place and tighten it accordingly to insure it is secure.
