How to Replace Your Turn Signal Relay in a Pontiac Grand Prix

When the turn signal of your Pontiac Grand Prix stops functioning, often the first thought is that the light bulb went out. While that's a reasonable assumption, it may not be the cause of the problem. There's a good chance that you need to replace the turn signal relay. Luckily, this procedure is simple enough that most anyone can do it.

Use a flashlight to locate the relay panel on the Pontiac Grand Prix. The panel should be on the left side of the steering wheel column above or to the left of the brake pedal.

Take a screwdriver and remove the relay panel. You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver to remove it successfully. Be careful when you remove the panel, as its plastic construction makes it brittle and prone to breaking. Put the screws in a safe place, so you don't lose them.

Look on the underside of the relay panel to locate the exact position of the turn signal relay. There should be a diagram showing a chart with each relay labeled. If not, the turn signal relay is usually in the upper right hand corner of the relay box.

Remove the broken turn signal relay and replace it with the new one. Make sure you're careful while removing and replacing the relay. You can damage the new turn signal relay and the relays near it, if you use too much force.

Activate the turn signal to make certain it works properly after the relay replacement. If not, check to be sure you installed the relay correctly and securely.

Put the relay panel back in place and dispose of the old turn signal relay.
