Your 2005 through 2009 Saturn Vue offers you spacious cabin and cargo room, while offering good gas mileage. If you have driven close to 100,000 miles over the life of the car. This means that you need to perform some maintenance. One form of this maintenance is to replace the valve cover gasket.

Instructions

    1

Lift the hood and disconnect the battery cable. Locate and disconnect the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor connector. Locate and loosen the clamp at the air conditioner assembly. Locate and remove the assembly (push-pin) from the outlet resonator and the duct assembly-to-support bracket.

    2

Locate and loosen the clamp that is attached to the throttle body assembly. Locate and disconnect the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) fresh air vent hose at the cam cover. Locate and remove the outlet resonator and duct assembly.

    3

Locate and remove the ignition module bolts. Remove the ignition module assembly. Locate and disconnect the coolant degas hose from the fuel rail. Disconnect the degas hose clamp at the cylinder head and move it away from the valve cover assembly.

    4

Disconnect the ground strap at the rear of the cam cover assembly. Relieve the fuel system pressure by connecting the SA9127E or equivalent to the fuel pressure connection, installing the bleed hose (three) into an approved container and opening the valve (five) to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing. Disconnect the fuel pressure gauge from the fuel pressure connection.

    5

Disconnect the fuel rail bracket and bolt at the rear of the cam cover. Using an open end wrench loosen the transfer line fitting at the fuel rail. Move the fuel line away from the valve cover assembly. Remove the valve cover bolts and the cover. Remove the valve cover gasket.

    6

Clean the gasket seating area and place the new gasket into place. Place the valve cover back on and tighten the valve cover bolts. Place the fuel line assembly back into place. Reattach and install the transfer line fitting to the fuel rail, tightening the transfer fitting to fuel rail. Reconnect the fuel rail bracket and bolt to the cylinder head. Reconnect the valve cover assembly and the ground strap, tightening the valve cover ground strap bolts.

    7

Reconnect the degas hose and the bracket, clamping it to the cylinder head. Tighten the coolant pipe bracket bolt. Reinstall the ignition module assembly to the valve cover. Using your hands, tighten the retaining. Tighten the ignition module-to-camshaft cover bolts. Reinstall the outlet resonator and duct assembly into position. Reconnect the PCV fresh air vent hose assembly. Tighten the clamp at the throttle body assembly. Position the outlet resonator and duct assembly up with support bracket and install the push-pin. Tighten the clamp at the air cleaner assembly. Reconnect the IAT (Intake Air Temperature) sensor connector. Install the air cleaner outlet duct assembly. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

    8

Add oil to the engine and allow it run idle for 10 to 15 minutes. This will allow the oil to move to the top of the engine, lubricating the parts as it does.
