The Lincoln Navigator has an electric fuel pump so you should ensure that its fuses and relays are working before inspecting it. You may need to clean or replace your fuel pump if your fuel tank is not empty but your engine is still having trouble getting fuel. The Chevy Cobalt comes in a variety of styles and trim levels that can affect the replacement fuel pump you choose.

Instructions

    1

Determine which fuel pump your Lincoln Navigator will need. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size and type. Models built from 1998 to 2007 have 5.4 L Triton or InTech engine. Models made after 2007 have only the 5.4 L Triton engine.

    2

Prepare your vehicle for fuel pump servicing. Release the fuel system pressure and drain the tank. Disconnect the fuel tank skid plate (if present) by removing four nuts with a socket wrench.

    3

Disconnect the vapor tubes and the fuel filter outlet tube. Remove the vapor tube from the evaporative emissions dust separator. Support the fuel tank with a hydraulic jack and remove the two bolts that hold on the support straps for the fuel tank.

    4

Remove the vent tube from the fuel pump and disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pump and fuel pressure transducer. Lower the fuel tank and remove the fuel and vapor tubes from the fuel pump. Use tool 303-123 to remove the fuel pump lock ring. Remove the fuel pump and discard the O-ring seal.

    5

Install the new fuel pump using the items included in the kit, especially the O-ring seal. Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts for the fuel tank support straps to 35 ft. lbs. and the nuts for the fuel tank skid plates to 15 ft. lbs.
