How to Remove a Trunk Latch From a Ford Focus

When the Ford Focus was first introduced, it was heralded for its European design and unique styling. But shortly after it came out, complaints started showing up everywhere, including issues with the trunk latch of the car either sticking or not staying shut. If you need to install a new latch to fix the problem, it can be done at home with the right tools and parts.

Instructions

    1

Open the hatch or trunk and pull it open all the way. If you have any decorative carpeting or a trim panel on the hatch, pull it off to release the clips that hold it in place.

    2

Use the flathead screwdriver to pry out the trunk release cable from the latch. There is a tiny access window on the latch, and if you gently pry out the wire to the latch, you can get the retainer out of the cable.

    3

Unbolt the factory latch from the trunk or hatch using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket.
