Although Geo Trackers haven't been manufactured for a few years, there are still plenty of them on the road. Ensuring a long life for a Geo Tracker means maintaining them properly and taking care of repairs as needed. If the oil pan gasket needs to replaced, it's a fairly straightforward job on Trackers through 1994. Here's how to change the oil pan gasket on a Tracker model from before with a 1.3-L engine.

Instructions

    1

Use a wrench to remove the skid plate under the vehicle, if one is included in your Geo Tracker.

    2

Locate the plug on the under side of the drain pan and place a bucket under the plug. Loosen the plug with the wrench and remove it with your fingers so it doesn't fall in the bucket. Remove the clutch inspection cover.

    3

Remove the bolts holding the oil pan and carefully take off the oil pan. Scrape off the old gasket and wipe out the pan with a clean rag. Clean the joining surface with a rag dipped in solvent.

    4

Run a bead of silicone gasket around the joining surface and quickly replace the oil pan. Tighten the bolts starting at the center and working to the ends.

    5

Put the drain plug back on with a new washer.

    6

Replace the clutch inspection cover and the skid plate, if applicable. Let the silicone gasket set up for at least 30 minutes, then add 4 qt. of fresh motor oil.

    7

Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more if necessary. Geo Metro models require approximately 4.5 qt. of motor oil.
