The Mitsubishi Eclipse has been in production since 1990, but underwent several major design changes. As such, these steps apply specifically to model years 2000 and onward, but may be used as a general reference for other model years.

Instructions

    1

Buy BG Synchro Shift to use in your manual transmission; Mitsubishi highly recommends it to maintain smooth shifting. If Synchro Shift isn't available, any GL-4 transmission fluid of viscosity 75W90 is suitable. In the automatic transmission, use ATF+4 automatic transmission fluid.

    2

Use DOT 3 brake fluid in both the brake fluid reservoir and in your hydraulic clutch. While these fluids are, in this particular instance and vehicle, interchangeable, remember that you shouldn't change or mix most automotive fluids.

    3

Know that using the wrong coolant in your engine may lead to corrosion and damage to cooling system components. Use a silicate-free, ethylene glycol base antifreeze, mixed in equal proportion with clean distilled water.

    4

Maintain your power steering fluid reservoir levels with DEXRON-II automatic transmission fluid. If this isn't available or if you're unsure whether you should use it in your vehicle, any generic power steering fluid should be suitable.
