How to Pop Out a Urethane Dent

Urethane is a popular composite material used worldwide in manufacturing. It is commonly found in the urethane front and rear bumpers on many modern vehicles. If your car has a urethane bumper and you get a dent in it, it might be possible to remove the dent because of the structural properties of urethane. It takes just a bit of work to pop out the dent and restore the bumper.

Instructions

    1

Unbolt the dented bumper using a Phillips screwdriver and the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Pull the bumper off the car and set it face-down onto a soft surface such as a lawn or a moving blanket.

    2

Let the bumper sit in the sun for at least an hour to make it more pliable.

    3

Heat the area around the dent and the dent itself with the heat gun. Wear gloves and keep the heat gun moving or you risk blistering the paint. Continue heating the damaged area for 10 to 15 minutes until the dent pops out.
