The front lighting on VW Passat is a standard feature. What makes the Adaptive Front Lighting System so special is that it turns up to 15 degrees in the direction you turn while driving. The electronics of this lighting system makes changing a simple light bulb a bit more difficult than other cars. There is an additional bulb-the signal light-that is part of this system.

Instructions

    1

Read the owner's manual as it relates to the Adaptive Front Lighting System of the VW Passat. If you aren't familiar with the electronics of a car then you will want to have a mechanic repair your signal light.

    2

Check for the operation of the signal lights on the VW Passat on a regular basis. You may not be able to repair the signal light, but you can certainly know when you need this repair. Ask a friend to turn the signal light on and off while you stand outside and inspect the operation of the bulbs.

    3

Decide if the whole turn signal assembly is broken or if the light bulb is blown. If you decide to replace the whole signal light assembly yourself, you can purchase a kit specifically for the VW Passat that will include instructions.

    4

Search for a thumbscrew that holds the housing in place when you are ready to begin repairs. Remove the thumbscrew, remove the housing screw and lift the housing out gently. Watch for wires.

    5

Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull out the housing. Don't pull too hard-you don't want to disconnect any of the wiring.

    6

Take the light bulb from the socket, unplug the circuitry from the housing and replace it with the parts from the kit you purchased. Inspect the circuitry before you install. Make the same type of inspection to the plug and light bulbs.

    7

Screw the bulb socket and housing back into place and test the signal lights before driving.
