Your Nissan Pathfinder most likely has a mechanical (belt-driven) fan. A novice should be able to accomplish these steps in about an hour with little more than a wrench and a screwdriver. A pry bar and a step stool may be helpful as well.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable of your Nissan Pathfinder with some non-conductive material such as a clean dry rag or work glove.

    2

Loosen the locking bolts on the drive belt pulleys and then back the holding bolts out so that you can swing the pulleys downward and remove all the drive belts.

    3

Unbolt the fan housing's mounting bolts, then lift the fan housing out of the engine compartment. Next, loosen the fan retaining bolt to pull the fan apart, and reassemble with new parts. You can also simply substitute an entirely new fan assembly.

    4

Place the new or reassembled fan assembly back into the engine compartment and bolt it firmly in place. Tighten the bolts evenly to 4 to 7 foot pounds (6 to 10 Nm) of torque, and make certain the fan shroud (housing) is secure.

    5

Reinstall all drive belts and adjust them to proper tension. Make certain to retighten the locking bolts on the pulleys once they are properly adjusted.

    6

Check the coolant level and add coolant if necessary, then start the engine on your Nissan Pathfinder. Check for coolant leaks and for proper engine cooling fan operation.
