The Kia Spectra, first produced in by parent company Hyundai Kia Automotive Group, became Kia's top-selling vehicle in the United States in the 2004 to 2005 model year. The steps are the same for all contemporary model years of the Kia Spectra unless otherwise noted.

Instructions

    1

Use SAE 10W-30 engine oil in your Kia Spectra's engine, unless you intend to operate it in temperatures below 0 degrees Fahrenheit before your next oil change. If that's the case, you may find 5W-30 to be more appropriate, aiding with cold starting.

    2

Purchase only API Service GL-4 fluid, or SAE 75W-90, for your manual transmission. The automatic transmission takes SK ATF SP-III or Diamond ATF SP-III.

    3

Replenish your power steering fluid as necessary with PSF-III.

    4

Put SAEJ1703 or FMVSS116 DOT-3 or DOT-4 brake fluid in your hydraulic braking and/or clutch system.

    5

Keep your windshield clean with any windshield washing fluid that contains an antifreeze component for cold weather application. If you're positive that temperatures won't drop to freezing, you could even use plain water, although most washer fluids have solvents that do a better job of cleaning.
