The Chevy Camaro is one of America's most desired cars. Premiering in the mid-1960s, the Camaro has enjoyed tremendous popularity among car enthusiasts. The springs in the Camaro's high performance suspension system are replaced by removing the shocks, but may vary according to model year. The Camaro's classic muscle car status demands the use of high performance springs.

Instructions

    1

Raise the car and use jack stands for safety before removing the following: master brake cylinder (if necessary), upper spring/shock bolts and nuts, and front wheel stabilizer bar.

    2

Mark the location of the upper spring mounting before removing the Camaro's lower shock absorber nuts and bolts, lower ball joint stud and the shock/spring unit.

    3

Use the compressor's tools to lock in the shock/spring unit before removing the lock nut on the shock absorber unit and relieving the pressure on the spring before separating it from the unit. This is the most dangerous part of the process and extra caution needs to be observed when removing the spring.

    4

Replace the spring with a new certified GM spring. The Camaro's high performance suspension depends upon high quality springs.

    5

Reassemble the shock/spring unit and make certain the seats are positioned properly and the bolts are tightened to the Camaro's exact specifications. Another note of caution is necessary to make sure not to over compress the spring which could cause failure and lead to injury.

    6

Reinstall and reattach all parts which were removed to access the shock/spring unit. Make certain to reconnect the master brake cylinder if removal was necessary.

    7

Lower the Camaro and tighten all nuts and bolts. At this time run a check of all your tools and parts and make certain you have reattached or reassembled all parts and accessories.
