The lock on the trunk of a car keeps people from entering the trunk and protects the contents inside. If the lock fails or breaks, then your trunk will not be protected at all, and the contents could be stolen. Fixing the problem may seem like a complicated process, but it's quite straightforward once you get into it. Removing the trunk lock should take under five minutes and does not require any special tools.

Instructions

    1

Open up the trunk. Look at the backside of the lock and use the flathead screwdriver to release the plastic clip holding the trunk linkage to the lock.

    2

Place the head of the flathead screwdriver onto the flat end of the clip holding the lock to the trunk. Hit the end of the flathead screwdriver with the hammer to pop the clip off of the lock.

    3

Carefully close the trunk and slide the lock out of the trunk, making sure not to hit the surrounding metal.
