The fuel injector in a Cadillac Escalade mixes fuel with air under pressure and rendered carburetors obsolete during the late 1980s. A fuel injector has programmable firmware that allows the same hardware to handle different fuels. The fuel injector consists only of a nozzle and valve; it still requires a pump to deliver fuel into the engine.

Instructions

    1

Determine which fuel injector your Cadillac Escalade needs. This depends not only on the make and model, but also the engine size. Models made from 1998 to 2000 have a 5.7 L engine, 2002 to 2006 models may have a 5.3 L or 6.0 L engine and models built after 2006 have a 6.2 L engine.

    2

Remove the negative battery cable to relieve the pressure on the fuel system. Remove the bracket nut for the wiring harness with a socket wrench and disconnect the electrical connectors for the evaporative emission purge solenoid, alternator and knock sensor. Now remove all of the main coil and fuel injector connectors.

    3

Disconnect the fuel send line from the fuel rail and loosen the fuel rail bolts with a socket wrench so you can remove the fuel rail. Remove the lower O-ring seal and retainer clip from each fuel injector and discard them. This allows you to take out the fuel injectors.

    4

Install the new fuel injector by reversing the removal procedure. Grease the new O-ring seals with clean engine oil and push the fuel injector into the injector socket so that the electrical connector faces outward. Lock the retainer clip on to a flange on the injector socket. Use a torque wrench to tighten the fuel rail bolts to 89 in. lbs.

    5

Turn the ignition on for 2 seconds, off for 10 seconds and start the engine to check for fuel leaks.
