Motorcycle fenders are cut off by their owners in different ways for various reasons. Some cut off the rear ends of the tail fender to change its angle. The mid section of the fender may be chopped off and the shorter parts are welded together. Some cut the fender lengthwise along the middle and weld on a strip of steel to the two parts to widen it. To make it narrower, a strip is cut off lengthwise from the middle. Whichever way it is done, remodeling a motorcycle fender is a moderately tough job. However, it can be done at home.

Instructions

    1

Take measurements and record them. Your measurements will be determined by how much you want to cut off of your fender.

    2

Place the fender on your work table and hold it down securely. Mark out the areas that you want to cut according to the recorded measurements.

    3

Put the fender back on the motorcycle to make sure that the measurements that you have taken are adequate for the alterations that you wish to make. If you are not satisfied, measure again and make fresh marks for the cuts.

    4

Remove the fender from the bike. Clear the area where you are going to cut the fender and ask a helper to hold it down firmly on the flat surface where you will cut it.

    5

Connect the cutting wheel to your cutting tool and tighten it according to the instructions. Switch on the air compressor and wait for it to charge. Adjust the pressure setting and attach the cutting tool to it by its air hose attachment.

    6

Put on your ear muffs and safety shield before attempting to cut through the steel fender. Hold the cutting tool at an angle and slowly cut along the marks. Do not put any pressure. Let the tool do the cutting.

    7

Let the fender cool before you touch it. Apply cold water with the rag for this. Once it has cooled down, put it on the motorcycle to ascertain that the cut has met your specifications. If not, then you can make the necessary cuts again.
