The Lincoln Navigator is a full sized, four-door vehicle that has been produced by the Ford Motor Company since 1998. There are several engine sizes, as well as several model designs that different from year to year. The Navigator's 6.8L engine, 4x2 model with a DOHC engine may require the oil pan to be drained when a hole presents itself.

Instructions

    1

Drive the Navigator onto a surface that is flat, secure and stable to work on. Use a jack and jack stands to raise the vehicle from the ground and then support the vehicle carefully.

    2

Use an oil drip pan placed under the engine's oil pan, located under the Navigator between the tires. Use a wrench to unscrew the bolt holding the oil in the pan, at the back of the oil pan, and allow all oil to drain into the oil drip pan below. Drain for at least 10 minutes or until empty.

    3

Remove the intake manifold, the fan shroud and the engine cooling fan, then finally the alternator. Each is located under the Navigator and requires a wrench to remove them.

    4

Install an engine support device following the directions provided by its manufacturer. There are two bolts from the engine mount that will need removal.

    5

Raise the engine up by just 2.5 inches. Do not raise the engine any more than this and be very careful in creating just enough clearance to remove the oil pan.

    6

Unscrew the oil pan bolts located around the outer edge of the pan, one by one. The oil pan and gasket will fall off; if the gasket has damage in any way, do not reuse it if there is damage to it.
