How to Replace Torque Top Strut Mount Nuts

It is important to properly retorque the upper strut mount bolts. They need to be solid in their connection the surfaces around them and not so tight as to cause damage or excessive corrosion. This can be done in just a few minutes with a combination of your fingers and a torque wrench.

Replace the upper strut mount nuts if, when you removed them, they showed signs of excessive corrosion, rust or were cracked or broken. These can be found at any auto parts store. A store associate can assist you with finding the correct ones.

Run one of the strut mounts nuts down, using just your fingertips until the nut is solidly in place. Pull the other nuts up snugly and repeat the same process. There will be three or four nuts depending on your specific vehicle. If you are unsure, check the holes available.

Torque the nuts down with a torque wrench according to your vehicle's torque specifications. It should be approximately a half turn to a full turn past the contact point. If you are having a difficult time getting them torqued down properly, double check that they are lined up correctly.

Reinstall the weather boot. This completes the installation of the upper strut mounts nuts. It is a good idea to clean the area afterward to keep corrosion from creeping into the new contacts.
