If your speedometer isn't working, you risk exceeding the speed limit whenever you drive. To fix the problem, you can take your car to a mechanic or you can install a new speedometer yourself.

Instructions

    1

Lift the back end of your vehicle with wheel ramps or jack stands.

    2

Take out the instrument cluster by loosening the screws at the upper edge of the panel. Pull the top down gently to discharge the clips securing it in place.

    3

Reveal the instrument cluster and the screws holding it in place. Undo those screws and the connectors and take the cluster off.

    4

Expose your speedometer by taking out the bulbs and cover and disengage any light connections.

    5

Reverse Steps 2, 3 and 4 to install your new speedometer. Test-drive your car to be sure your speedometer is working properly.
