The 2005 Cadillac SRX has more problems with the front turn signal bulbs than the rear ones. And though replacement at the front is more time consuming, it is an easy task to complete. The rear turn signal bulb only takes a few minutes to replace. The front bulb requires removing the front tire and the inner splash shield to get to the rear cover that conceals the turn signal and fog light bulb. The turn signal bulb is the same type for the front and the rear.

Instructions

Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

    1

Loosen the lug nuts one turn with the lug wrench on the side that needs the bulb replaced. Raise the side of the car by placing the floor jack under the sub-frame and placing a jack stand under the frame. Lower the car so that it rests on the stand. Finish removing the lug nuts and tire.

    2

Remove just the front -- behind the headlight -- section of the splash shield, using the wire cutters to remove the trim fasteners. They are the button type, with a center pin that spreads them apart to make them tight. Lift the center pin with the wire cutters, and they will pull right out.

    3

Look in the opening made by the removal of the splash shield and you will see a cover over the back of the fog and turn signal light. Remove the two Torx bolts. Unplug the electrical harness connector to these lights and pull the cover off -- this exposes the back of the lights. Twist the back of the bulb counterclockwise to remove the bulb. Replace the bulb with a 3157 bulb.

    4

Reinstall the rear cover with the two Torx bolts. Replace the inner splash shield and push in the trim fasteners. Install the wheel and tire. Tighten the lug nuts down as much as possible. Lower the car and tighten the lug nuts to 120 foot-pounds of torque.

Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

    5

Open the trunk and pull the carpeting away from the back of the tail light, exposing the two nuts securing the tail light.

    6

Remove the two nuts securing the tail light, using a socket. Pull the tail light lens straight out of its pocket in the body, from the outside. Pull the socket out of the lens and replace the bulb.

    7

Insert the lens by aligning the two studs with the bolt holes and tighten the two nuts. Push the carpet back into place.
