People who buy compact cars like the Kia Spectra, are looking for high levels of fuel efficiency. If your vehicle has a leaky fuel tank, your miles per gallon will not be accurate. The Spectra is an underpowered economy car. Its construction is cheap, so rust and corrosion of its parts is expected. Routine maintenance is required to have longevity in the life of Kia vehicles.

Instructions

    1

Drain the gas from the fuel tank in a container that is specifically designed to hold combustible liquid.

    2

Determine if there is a drain cock on the fuel tank or if you need to disconnect the supply line in order to drain the remainder of the gasoline in the tank.

    3

Twist and loosen the screw in the clamp to the fuel line-this allows the gas to completely drain from the fuel tank and there will be less gas in the lines as well. Catch this gasoline in a large mouth container and pour it into the proper receptacle.

    4

Grip the other two fuel lines and remove them with wrenches and pliers. There will be gasoline in these lines as well-have a wide mouth container to catch the excess gasoline. You need to disconnect the supply line, the fill tube line and the vent line before you can unstrap the fuel tank.

    5

Try to loosen the nuts at the ends of the straps and let them drop the tank on their own onto the blocks you have put in place to catch the tank. Gravity will work in your favor if you let it.

    6

Take the old tank off the blocks and put the new fuel tank onto them. Fasten the straps with new nuts. If the straps are rusty, you can replace them at the same time. Reverse the removal of the fuel tank.
