How to Remove a Window From a '92 Mustang

I won't lie to you. Removing the rear quarter-window on a 1992 Ford Mustang is not for the average car owner. However, if you're an automotive enthusiast who's handy with the tools and that discolored or even decaying rubber molding is driving you crazy, it is possible to get the window out of the car.

Instructions

    1
The Phillips head screwdriver is a must-have in removing your '92 Mustang's window.

I warned you. This can be a tedious project. All the rear interior trim must be removed using a small Phillips head screwdriver. This is the only way to get to the retaining nuts for your rear quarter-window. In the hatchback model, start with the rear panel.

    2
    Unscrew the top panel.

Take it from the top, the top panel that is. Uninstall the top panel from your '92 Ford Mustang. Fortunately, it's only fastened with easy-to-remove screws.

    3
    These are your pillar locations.

Buckle up for safety, but not right now. If you've been nailed for a seat belt violation, this one might be tough. Then again, it may feel pretty good in a vindictive kind of way. Using a socket wrench, unbolt the seat belt at the floor and at the B-pillar. In case you're wondering, the B-pillar is the roof support between a car's front door window and rear side window..

    4
Just remove the speaker grille, not the actual speaker.

Okay, now you're ready to take out your '92 Mustang's speaker grilles-- not the entire speaker-- as well as the cover over the door sill, a.k.a. the scuff panel. Trust me. We're almost done.

    5
Take out the quarter-panels and you're almost there.

We're oh-so close. Once the grilles and scuff panel are out, you should now have access to the large interior quarter-panels, or more accurately, the screws that retain these panels. Unscrew and cast them aside. Okay, don't actually cast them. Just place the quarter-panels outside your vehicle.

    6
Now that you're done with the window, how about a few more projects?

Victory! You're here at last. You've reached the retaining nuts that hold the quarter-window structure in place in your '92 Ford Mustang. There should be nine nuts. Unfasten them and carefully pop the quarter-window out, that is, away from the body of the vehicle. Then remove that window.
