How to Replace a Headlight in a Chevy Trailblazer

Along with the main headlight bulb, the Chevy Trailblazer's headlight assembly also contains bulbs for the turn signal and the side marker. You need to replace these bulbs if they ever burn out. You must replace the housing itself if the glass is cracked or broken, and there's a good chance you'll need to change one or all the bulbs in that same case. Changing the headlights on this model requires removing the radiator grille.

Instructions

Removal

    1

Open the hood and disconnect the battery as a precaution -- loosen the clamp nut for the black negative cable and separate it from the battery terminal.

    2

Unscrew and remove the fasteners for the plastic radiator panel with a wrench. Remove the panel.

    3

Release the clips connecting the grille to the headlight panel on the bottom using a flat screwdriver and then pull the grille off the truck.

    4

Pull up the retaining tabs on opposite corners of the headlight housing and remove the sockets for the park/turn signal and the side marker, located in the back of the housing.

    5

Unplug the electrical connectors and remove the housing.

    6

Turn the headlight bulb holder counterclockwise and remove it from the housing.

    7

Pull the light bulb needing replacement out of its socket.

Installation

    8

Push the replacement bulb into its holder. Use gloves or a rag on the bulb glass to prevent your own body oils from getting on the glass.

    9

Install the headlight bulb holder into the housing and turn it clockwise.

    10

Insert the replacement housing into the car body and connect the electrical connectors. Install the side marker and turn signal lights.

    11

Push the retaining tabs into place.

    12

Install the grille, making sure the clips engage, and connect the top radiator panel with its fasteners.

    13

    Reconnect the battery cable.
