How to Paint With a Badger 200-20 Airbrush

The Badger 200-20 is an innovative airbrush commonly used by custom paintwork specialists. The design of the Badger 200-20 includes three 'O' rings located at strategic points that promote a solid grip for easier paint application. It is widely used for the application of water-based and solvent based colors and is easily dismantled for cleaning. One of the key features of the Badger 200-20 airbrush is the addition of nylon washers that never lose their shape or crack after excessive exposure to paint thinners.

Instructions

    1

Activate a small quantity of water-based paint with a compatible activator. Alternatively, mix solvent-based materials with a compatible hardener and add 10 percent of compatible thinner to establish effective paint flow. Add the paint to a detachable Badger paint pot and screw onto the airbrush in a clockwise direction using the threaded pot holder fixing.

    2

Plug the Badger 200-20 airbrush into an airline powered by a portable hobbyist compressor. Hold the airbrush in your stronger hand with the barrel resting down on the fleshy mound on the back of your hand between the thumb and index finger. Place the index finger on top of the paint release trigger and aim it at a piece of blank paper. Move the wrist slowly to draw a straight line to establish paint flow. If the color of the line is vague, add a little more paint. If the airbrush splutters, add a little more activator to water-based products or thinner to solvent-based products.

    3

Draw a series of straight lines on the paper, moving the arm closer to the paper for a bolder line and move the arm further away for a wider spread of atomized color that produces a cloud-like effect. Experiment with a series of different shapes including circles, loops and doodles until you have established a feel for the airbrush.

    4

Spray different colors and layer them over each other to see what effects can be achieved. Attempt a few basic colored drawings on the blank paper, painting backgrounds before building the image on top of them to add dimension.

    5

Clean the Badger 200-20 airbrush thoroughly after painting. Rinse out water-based colors with clean water before spraying through with cellulose thinners. Solvent-based paints can be discarded and the airbrush can be cleaned with cellulose thinners straight away.
