Checking your oil on a regular basis keeps your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently. Some experts recommend that you check your oil every time you stop and add fuel to the vehicle. The Dodge Caravan has a dipstick with minimum and maximum markings to help owners check their oil levels with ease.

Instructions

    1

Park your Dodge Caravan on a flat place and wait approximately 5 minutes after the fully warmed engine is shut off before opening the hood. You want to avoid waiting too long after the engine is shut off because the oil needs to be warm for accurate readings.

    2

Find the engine oil dipstick. It has a ring handle for easy grasping.

    3

Grasp the yellow ring at the top and gently pull the Dodge Caravan dipstick out of its sheath. Wipe it off with a rag or tissue to clean it.

    4

Observe the cross hatch marks on the dipstick with the words "Max" (maximum) and Min" (minimum). These mark the safety zone for the safe running of your engine, and the oil should measure somewhere inside these marks.

    5

Slip the dipstick back into the sheath and pull it right out to get a clear reading. Look at the oil level on the dipstick without wiping it off. The oil level mark should be within the cross hatch section of the dipstick.

    6

Drain some oil out if the oil is over the marks in the maximum section; if it is at or below the marks in the minimum section, you need to add oil. When the oil is at a minimum mark, 1 quart of oil brings it to maximum.
