While replacing the engine cooling fan on a Toyota Corolla is relatively simple compared to other models, a novice should still make certain to have at least a full hour before undertaking this project. You need a wrench, a screwdriver and a clean, covered container for engine coolant to replace the fan on your Toyota Corolla.

Instructions

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable on your Toyota Corolla and isolate it with non-conductive material, such as a clean dry rag. Open the drain on the bottom of the radiator and drain the engine coolant into a clean container with a tight-fitting cover. Cover the container and set it aside.

    2

Remove the coolant overflow reservoir. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the radiator. Mark the location and orientation of the hose clamp before loosening it.

    3

Unplug the electric cooling fan's electrical connector. Four bolts hold the fan and housing in place; loosen and remove the bolts, then lift the housing out of the engine compartment. If necessary, you can unbolt and remove the fan motor from the assembly.

    4

Place a new fan assembly in place in the engine compartment and bolt it in place. Reconnect the upper radiator hose and align the hose clamp according to the marks you made in Step 2. Replace the coolant overflow reservoir.

    5

Make certain the drain on the bottom of the radiator is closed, then refill the engine coolant system and bleed air as necessary. Check for proper coolant levels before proceeding.

    6

Reconnect the negative battery cable. Run the vehicle up to normal operating temperature and check for coolant leaks. Verify that the engine cooling fan is operating properly.
