The Chrysler Sebring is a series of cars designed as the predecessor for the Chrysler LeBaron. To make accessing the engine and trunk on these passenger cars easy to do, you need to lubricate the hood and trunk latches every 5,000 miles. The following steps for lubrication apply to the following models: coupes 1995 to 2005, convertibles 1996 to present and sedans 2001 to present.

Instructions

    1

Pop the hood of your Chrysler Sebring and secure it. Wipe away any surface debris found around the hood latch. Also, wipe down the male end of the latch, which is attached directly to the hood.

    2

Evaluate the condition of your Chrysler Sebring hood latch. Look for rust spots and remove them with a metal brush or a fine grain sandpaper. Treat these areas with WD-40. Wipe away any excess WD-40 that splatters onto your car.

    3

Spray the hood latch with a lithium grease, or use a another type of metal lubricant like GEL-LUBE to lubricate the latch. Try out the latch a few times to work the lubricant into the latch and to determine if you applied enough. If the latch is squeaking, lubricate the latch one more time.

    4

Pop the trunk either by using the internal trunk release button, your remote control trunk release toggle or your key. Remove the debris that has accumulated in and around the trunk latch.

    5

Treat the latch for rust, apply WD-40, if needed, and then lubricate the latch with your spray lithium grease, like you did the hood latch.
