The 3.0L engine in a Plymouth Voyager uses a distributor to house the ignition coil, which transfers low-voltage power from the battery into high-voltage spark to create combustion. Other types of engines still rely on the ignition coil, but the system operates without a distributor.

Instructions

    1

Determine which type of ignition system you have. The location of the ignition coil depends on this. In Plymouth Voyagers with a distributor, you'll find the ignition coil at the back of the intake manifold.

    2

Kill the power from the battery. Remove the ground cable that connects to the negative terminal post of the battery. This prevents accidents and injury as you work on the car.

    3

Disconnect the windshield wiper/motor module assembly and remove it.

    4

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the Voyager ignition coil.

    5

Use a socket set or a small wrench to loosen and remove the bolt securing the ignition coil to the mounting bracket. Look for bolts on top and underneath the ignition coil.

    6

Separate the Voyager ignition coil from the mounting system. Replace it with the new ignition coil. You want to reassemble the engine components in the reverse order in which you removed them.

    7

Secure the bracket-to-intake manifold fasteners to 115 inch pounds(13 Nm) and the ignition coil-to-mounting bracket retainers to 96 inch pounds (10 Nm) with a torque wrench.
