How to Remove Auto Interior Parts

Removing interior parts may be important to the auto repair you are completing, but it is extremely important to know where everything goes when you reassemble. To ensure this happens, pay attention to how you remove the parts and label them if necessary. Removing the interior also allows you to gain access to your upper strut mounts.

Locate the clips on your plastic paneling. Some of these clips can hide underneath the carpet, behind seat belts or behind the seat itself. Every vehicle is different with the fastener's location and type of fastener used.

Carry a plastic bag or other item to collect all of the clips and fasteners in so they don't get lost. If you lose or break them, most fasteners are very inexpensive to replace. It can get expensive and tedious to fix a large number of them all over the interior of the vehicle, though.

Know the different fasteners used and how they come undone. The spreaders have a small circle that pops off with a piece below that needs to come out by sliding it out from the mounting hole. Usually the same type of fastener will be used throughout the interior.

Continue removing the rest of the fasteners on the piece of interior you are removing. Once they are all out and secure in your plastic bag, you can gently start to pull the paneling off the side of the car frame. If there is a problem with it coming off easily, there is likely a screw or fastener you have missed. Find and unfasten it before continuing, or you could damage the paneling which is much more expensive to replace.
