How to Replace a Fuel Filter in an Acura Integra

The symptoms of a bad fuel filter include a loss in horse power, very sluggish acceleration and, in some cases, difficulty starting. Replacing the fuel filter is always preferred over trying to unclog it. The Acura Integra fuel filter is a fairly straight forward replacement. On the 2.2L and 3.0L engine models you will have to remove and replace a bracket and hose clamp to access the fuel filter.

Relieve the pressure on the fuel system by pulling the fuel pump fuse, and allow the vehicle to run until it stalls due to lack of fuel.

Locate the fuel filter on the passenger side wheel well just inside the engine compartment. For the 2.2L and 3.0L engine models remove the engine wire harness bracket and the power steering feed hose clamp to access the fuel filter. Wrap a shop towel around the filter to minimize any gas that might escape from the filter.

Loosen the fittings slowly on the fuel line. Remove the banjo bolts from the fuel line above and below the filter. Unscrew the bolts securing the fuel filter clamp and remove the filter.

Remove the filter from the clip holder and clean the fittings and hoses both above and below the filter. Install the new filter and replace the bolts for the holder, securing it to the engine wall.

Attach the banjo fittings to both sides of the fuel filter making sure you remember to use the washers or to place new washers. Tighten the bolts to 25 foot pounds with a torque wrench. Reconnect the negative battery cable and do a thorough check for any fuel leaks. Perform the final test by starting the engine.
