The oil pan on your Nissan Frontier needs to be in good condition to properly store the engine oil. It cannot have any puncture marks or holes that will cause the oil to leak out and lead to engine failure (leaking oil can also catch fire, leading to even greater problems). The exact installation process is similar to other Nissan trucks, but it can vary depending on the year and engine type of your Frontier model.

Instructions

    1

Raise the truck and support it on jack stands.

    2

Apply a continuous bead of RTV sealant, 3 1/2 millimeters wide, to the oil pan's inner sealing surface.

    3

Connect the oil pan to the crankcase and apply the bolts with your wrench, tightening them a quarter turn at a time. Start with the bolts near the center of the pan and work your way evenly to the edges of the pan.

    4

Connect all parts that needed to be removed for access to the pan using their bolts and your wrench. This can include the lower crossmember beam and the front exhaust pipe.

    5

Lower the truck off the jack stands. Wait at least 30 minutes from the time you connected the oil pan so the RTV sealant will dry.

    6

Connect a new oil filter using a filter wrench and add 3 1/2 to 4 quarts of API certified engine oil through the filler neck in the engine compartment. Observe the fill line according to the dipstick, wiping it off with a rag when needed.
