Someone opened one of their car doors into yours in a parking lot and left a dent too big to fix. Finding replacement car doors for some models are darn near impossible unless you know where to look. Here's how to buy a replacement car door so you can take it to your body shop for painting and assembly.

Instructions

    1

Let your insurance company look at the damage. If you have coverage you may want them to deal with finding a replacement door. You could also ask the name of their supplier and possibly get a door from them directly.

    2

Call the junk yard. Most late model car doors will be available from most larger junk yards. If you have an older car, you might not find a replacement door this way.

    3

Look online for a replacement car door at sites like eBay Motors. Be sure to include shipping in your cost calculations and check the eBay buyers guide for purchase protection options.

    4

Join a specialty car club. Car clubs are friendly groups of people who own the same type of vehicle. Most of the time they have a place for members to post ads to find or sell replacement parts from other members. There's a good chance you'll find someone who has the replacement door you need.

    5

Talk to the dealer. This is going to be the most expensive option, but if you can't find the door anywhere else, you may be able to order a replacement door from them.
