It seems like cars always need repairs. From small things like batteries and brakes and big things like engines and transmissions, anything at any time could wrong with your car. One thing that could become a problem is an oil leak. Whether you are lazy, do not have enough money or really do not mind oil stains on your driveway, there are many things you can do to deal with an oil leak instead of just fixing it.

Instructions

    1

Determine how bad the leak is. If there are puddles of oil underneath your car every time you go to it, then the leak is a serious problem that needs to be fixed before your engine overheats.

    2

Keep track of how many miles it takes until your car is low on oil.

    3

Consult your cars owner manual or the internet to view what kind of oil the car takes. Once you have figured that out, head to a local store like Wal-Mart and purchase enough quarts to fill your oil up.

    4

Purchase a couple of extra quarts and keep them in the trunk of your car. You will not want to lose track of the mileage one day and accidentally be too low on oil.

    5

Keep a lot of napkins or an old rag handy in the glove compartment. Opening your hood and putting oil in a lot could leave you fairly dirty and you would not want that if you are about to go out. It is also a good idea to keep some hand sanitizer or wet wipes in the car as well to get the tough stains and dirt out of your hand.

    6

Put down a dark mat where you usually park if you are concerned about getting your driveway stained. Add some sand to the top of the mat and the sand will help absorb the oil. If it is possible, park on the street to prevent any chance of oil stain at all.

    7

Be mindful of your oil leak when visiting friends or relatives and try not to stain their driveway as well. Park on the road if you can and if not, put a couple of paper towels underneath your car to prevent a lot of stains.

    8

Know that oil buildup may occur on your car frame, so try to power wash your car every month or so. This will stop the buildup from getting to big or causing more problems with your car.
