A cracked or broken mirror on your Chevy Silverado will greatly reduce your ability to see behind you, compromising your safety. If the mirror has completely broken off its mount, the sharp edges left behind also can be dangerous. You can remove and replace the mirror after obtaining a replacement for your 2008 model, which can be found at dealerships or supply stores. Replacing the mirror varies slightly depending on whether the door uses electrically powered mirrors.

Instructions

    1

Pull off the small, triange-shaped trim panel in the upper corner of the Silverado's inner door, pulling it straight out to release its clips from the door.

    2

Remove the inner trim panel if the truck has power windows and mirrors: pry off the window controls with a trim stick and disconnect the wiring. Pry off all other trim bezels, remove all the screws with a screwdriver and pry/lift the panel off the clips.

    3

Disconnect the electrical connector for the mirror, which should be located within the door itself, and feed its wiring out the door.

    4

Unscrew and remove the three nuts connecting the mirror to the door from the inside, using a wrench, and remove the mirror, feeding the wiring out through the door, if needed.

    5

Connect the replacement mirror, feeding its wiring through the hole in the door and applying the mounting nuts. Feed the wiring down through the door and connect it to the electrical connector.

    6

Reconnect the rim panels, the main inner trim panel, if you removed it, and the upper panel covering the mirror mounting nuts.
