How to Apply Sikaflex to the Underside of a Bonnet

Sikaflex adhesives and sealants provide strong bonds between the undercarriage and bonnet components. The integrity of the bond created by the adhesive relies on the correct preparation of both materials in the connection and the correct application of the adhesive to the joint. Grease, dirt and rust will interfere with the bond between the Sikaflex and body components. Cleaning the connections correctly will ensure the bonnet and undercarriage of the vehicle maintain a full bond.

Instructions

    1

Dampen a clean rag with isopropyl alcohol. Wipe the surface of the vehicle undercarriage with the damp rag. Use a clean section of the damp rag to wipe debris from the inside surface of the bonnet.

    2

Cut a 45-degree angle on the nozzle end of a Sikaflex tube. Slide the pointed end of an 8d nail into the cut Sikaflex tube nozzle. Push the nail through the seal located at the bottom of the nozzle.

    3

Set the opened tube in the body of a drop-in caulk gun. Push the arm located at the back of the caulk gun toward the tube of Sikaflex. Don chemical-resistant gloves.

    4

Align the open end of the Sikaflex nozzle with the bonnet mounting location of the undercarriage. Squeeze the drop-in caulk gun while you pull it along the undercarriage. Wipe excess Sikaflex from the connection with a gloved finger.

    5

Allow the Sikaflex to cure for 24 hours before continuing work on the bonnet.
