The 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix's rear seat is a simple design. Because the rear seat does not contain a folding partition, the process of removal is not as difficult as in some other vehicles. You may want to remove the rear seat temporarily to perform upholstery work on them, or you may want to permanently remove them to install accessories, such as audio equipment. Ask a friend to help you when you remove the final piece of the rear seat.

Instructions

    1

Shut the engine off and set the parking brake pedal for safety.

    2

Push the rear seat belt stalks down through the opening. If you don't do this, the stalks will catch on the rear seat cushion when you try to remove it.

Remove the two bolts on the bottom portion facing the front seats of the rear seat cushion. Use a ratchet or a wrench to remove them.

    3

Pull the tabs along the bottom portion of the rear seat cushion. Simultaneously lift the cushion toward the front of the Grand Prix and up, until it unhooks from the floorboard mount. Pull the cushion out of the back seat area and set it down.

    4

Remove the anchor nuts from the retaining posts with a ratchet or wrench along the bottom portion of the rear seatback. These nuts are visible with the cushion removed.

    5

Grasp the bottom of the rear seatback and swing it toward the front at a 45-degree angle. While in this position, push the seatback toward the rear and up to disengage it from the hangers.

    6

Pull the rear seatback out of the Grand Prix, preferably with the help of an assistant. The seatback is quite heavy.
