The bed on a 1990 Chevrolet truck is able to hold large amounts of cargo between its bedsides, but there comes a time when you have to remove the bed to do work on the truck. Maybe you want to change the Chevy Truck's fuel pump or you need to remove the bed to install a flatbed. Either way, taking off the bed off of a 1990 Chevy truck can be done at home with the help of a few friends.

Instructions

    1

Open the gas door. Disconnect the filler neck from the bedside of the Chevy truck using the 1/4-inch ratchet, extension and a torx-head socket. Push the gas filler cap into the inside of the bed. Reach up from the underside of the bed and pull the rubber gas filler neck down so that the filler cap is underneath the bed.

    2

Open the tailgate. Remove the taillights with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Untwist each bulb in the light to remove the lens from the bed. Push the wiring for the taillights down through the taillight opening in the bedside. Crawl underneath the bed and disconnect all of the wire clips for the taillight wiring from the bed using your hands.

    3

Unbolt the bed from the frame of the 1990 Chevy truck using a 1/2-inch ratchet, extension and socket. There are two bolts located forward of the rear axle, and two rear of the axle. If you have a long bed, there are two additional bolts.

    4

Set up your assistants around the perimeter of the bed. Lift the bed from the corners straight up off of the frame, then walk it straight back off of the truck.
