The Chrysler Town & Country is a minivan that has become a staple in the industry for some time since its introduction in 1990. While the makes and models have changed over time, the most popular Town & Country's are the 2001 to present models. Those who need to replace or repair the oil pan in these models can do so following these steps for the most common 2.4L engine.

Instructions

    1

Turn on the Chrysler and allow it to run for 5 minutes. This allows the engine oil to flow through the engine and to then drain into the oil pan. Turn off the car before moving on.

    2

Place the vehicle in a safe location to work on it in, such as a stable, secure surface. Use a jack and jack stands to elevate the vehicle safely, following the directions provided by the jack stand manufacturer.

    3

Pop the hood of the vehicle. On the right hand side of the engine, located towards the middle is the engine oil cap, which you should remove to allow for ventilation.

    4

Location to oil pan under the vehicle, positions between the tires on the right hand side of the car. Slide an oil drip pan under the oil pan; remove the oil pan plug (located on the oil pan) and pull to release the stored oil from the pan. Allow to train for 10 minutes.

    5

Position yourself under the vehicle to get a view of the engine above. Remove the negative battery cable first, to help prevent any shock to you.

    6

Remove the structural collar and the air conditioning compressor bracket connected to the oil pan bolt using a wrench. Once these items are disconnected, you will remove the oil pan itself using a wrench to loosen the bolts surrounding the oil pan.

    7

Brace the oil pan with one hand while removing the bolts from the other so that it doesn't fall. Once off, clean the oil pan well and clean all gasket matting surfaces before reinstalling the oil pan into the Town & Country.
