An important part of repacking and adjusting the wheel bearings in a vehicle is to lubricate the wheel bearings with grease. The following steps will show you how to apply new grease to wheel bearings.

Instructions

    1

Pump some grease from a grease gun onto your index finger. One pump or so should do the trick.

    2

Apply the grease onto the mating surface and seal the surface of the wheel spindle. You do not need too much grease here, just enough to coat the surface.

    3

Put another pump of grease onto your finger and lubricate the races of the brake rotor. Rub the grease into one side of the rotor until it is evenly coated and well lubricated.

    4

Flip it over and lubricate the other side of the rotor, making sure that it is evenly coated on this side, too.

    5

Fill the empty space between the races in the cavity of the rotor with a pump of grease. Apply it with your finger to get it evenly coated.

    6

Place one of the 2 bearings onto your middle finger past the knuckle of your finger.

    7

Put another shot of grease onto your index finger and rub it all the way around the bearing. Spin it on your finger as you rub it in to work some of the grease from the outside of the bearing into the inside of the bearing.

    8

Do the same to the inboard bearing, spreading it on the outside of the bearing and working it into the inside.
