One of the key advancements in the history of the automobile has been the automatic transmission, and one innovation that has improved transmissions is the servo, which facilitates smooth, even shifting. Ford manufactured a number of vehicles in the 1960s and 1970s with an FMX, a rear-wheel drive hydraulic transmission. You can upgrade your FMX by installing a servo.

Instructions

    1

    Jack up the vehicle.

    2

Locate and remove the lock ring under the transmission using a wrench and remove the cover.

    3

Drain the transmission fluid into a pan.

    4

Locate the pressure regulator, underneath two large, coiled springs. Remove the clip holding the springs in place using a wrench. Be careful when removing the springs since they are tightly coiled.

    5

Remove the bolts attached to the value body and detach the connected pipes.

    6

Pull out the modulator pin you will now see after removing the pipes.

    7

Use a wrench to fasten the servo to the upper and lower valves. Secure the servo springs with the clip that came with the servo.

    8

Reassemble the removed parts in reverse order. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Replace the transmission fluid.

  1. It is fun installing servo on FMX if you don't even know about the installation you can easily perform it by using theses simple steps.
