How to Fix a Faulty Mazda Automatic Seat Belt Warning Indicator

Fixing the automatic seat belt warning indicator in your Mazda takes only a few minutes and can save you the time and money of taking it to a mechanic or the dealer to fix. It is vitally important to keep all the seat belts in proper working order at all times, including the warning indicators.

Unhook the shoulder belts from the tracks and lay them out of the way. Remove the center console. This will require a Phillips head screwdriver and removing the screws in the console. The two in front are angled for easy reach, but you will need to recline the seats to access the two in the back.

Disconnect the wiring connector, just to the front of the seat belt retractors, and lay this out of your way. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to unscrew and remove the cover to the sensor. Notice the position of the circular circuit board, as you will need to put it, or a new one, back in the same way.

Remove the white plastic switch contact unit, without disrupting the gears behind it. On the driver's side, reinstall the contact unit 10 degrees counter-clockwise from where it was. On the passenger side, reinstall the contact unit clockwise from where it was.

Re-install the circuit board to it's original position. Replace the plastic cover and reconnect the wiring connector. Sit in the seat with the ignition on, adjust to where it needs to be and reconnect the shoulder belt to the door track. If the warning indicator has gone away, you fixed the problem and you can reassemble the console. If the indicator light is still on, go back to adjusting the switch contact unit another 10 degrees the same direction.
