A Honda Prelude generally has multiple belts, but the number of drive belts, or serpentine belts, varies depending on engine type. Because engine types, model years, and other details can change the way your Honda Prelude drive belts are assembled, you should get all of the specific documentation you can for your model year from the manufacturer.

Instructions

    1

Find the bolt assembly that holds the belt in place. Usually the alternator belt is held in place by the alternator bolt system, and the belt for the water pump and power steering pump also uses a bolt system. You should be able to see the bolt assembly for any drive belt near the belt and located on or near a component that is run by the belt.

    2

Take a look at how the belt is routed around various pulleys including components and "idler" pulleys. If you don't have a belt routing diagram from the manufacturer, make a sketch for future reference.

    3

Loosen the bolts on the belt lock assembly mentioned above and slip the old belt off of the pulleys.

    4

Install the new belt using your belt routing diagram. Make sure the new belt is wound the right way and correctly seated on all pulleys.

    5

Re-adjust the bolts to get the necessary tension back on the belt.

    6

Run the engine and listen for any strange sounds or flapping that can indicate incorrect installation.
