Your Ford Mustang may have one of two engine fan configurations--belt driven or electrical. These steps apply to any Ford Mustang with an electrical fan. The only tool necessary is a wrench, and an amateur should be able to complete this job within about 30 minutes.

Instructions

Remove the Old Fan

    1

Disconnect the negative battery cable and isolate it with some non-conductive material, such as a clean glove or rag, to ensure that it will not accidentally slip into contact with the battery terminal.

    2

Unclip your Mustang's fan wiring harness and unplug it from the fan motor connector.

    3

Use your wrench to remove the four bolts holding the fan and shroud assembly mounting bracket. Remove the entire assembly from the car.

    4

Remove the retaining clip from the end of the motor shaft and the fan blades.

    5

Loosen the nuts attaching the fan motor to the mounting bracket. Remove the nuts and the fan motor.

Install the New Fan

    6

Install the new fan motor onto the mounting bracket, and then tighten the four nuts to hold it in place.

    7

Attach the retaining clip to the end of the motor shaft and reinstall the fan blade.

    8

Reinstall the mounting bracket, fan and motor assembly in your vehicle and tighten the four bolts to hold it in place.

    9

Plug the fan wiring harness back into the fan motor connector, and clip the wiring harness back into place.

    10

    Reconnect the negative battery cable.
