Your Ford Mustang may have one of two engine fan configurations--belt driven or electrical. These steps apply to any Ford Mustang with an electrical fan. The only tool necessary is a wrench, and an amateur should be able to complete this job within about 30 minutes.
Instructions
Remove the Old Fan
- 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable and isolate it with some non-conductive material, such as a clean glove or rag, to ensure that it will not accidentally slip into contact with the battery terminal.
2Unclip your Mustang's fan wiring harness and unplug it from the fan motor connector.
3Use your wrench to remove the four bolts holding the fan and shroud assembly mounting bracket. Remove the entire assembly from the car.
4Remove the retaining clip from the end of the motor shaft and the fan blades.
5Loosen the nuts attaching the fan motor to the mounting bracket. Remove the nuts and the fan motor.
Install the New Fan
- 6
Install the new fan motor onto the mounting bracket, and then tighten the four nuts to hold it in place.
7Attach the retaining clip to the end of the motor shaft and reinstall the fan blade.
8Reinstall the mounting bracket, fan and motor assembly in your vehicle and tighten the four bolts to hold it in place.
9Plug the fan wiring harness back into the fan motor connector, and clip the wiring harness back into place.
10Reconnect the negative battery cable.
