Windshield wipers act as twin squeegees, constantly working back and forth across the glass to keep the windshield free of vision-obscuring rain. New wiper blades are clean and have no nicks or cracks. They are designed to wipe away water without leaving streaks. As wiper blades age, the rubber becomes brittle and may form cracks. Road grime can build up, preventing a tight seal against the window resulting in annoying streaks. Its a good idea to change out those worn wiper blades before those annoying streaks turn into dangerous vision-obstructing blind spots.

Grasp the drivers side windshield wiper arm. Pull the arm away from the windshield. Wipe away any accumulated road grime and dirt from the blade. Inspect the blade for cracks, nicks or torn places. If any of these conditions are present the blade needs to be replaced.
2Insert the screwdriver blade under the release clip located between the wiper arm and the wiper blade near the pivot. Lift the release clip with the screwdriver blade. Pull the old wiper blade assembly off of the wiper arm. Discard the old wiper blade assembly.
3Place a cloth rag between the wiper arm and the windshield to prevent scratching the glass. Push the new wiper blade assembly onto the wiper arm. Press the release clip back down into its locked position. Remove the rag and lower the wiper assembly back against the windshield.
4Repeat each step with the passengers side wiper assembly. Pour water onto the windshield and engage the windshield wipers to ensure proper wiper action.
