How to Replace a Headlight in a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer

If the headlight in your Chevy Trailblazer burns out, you need to replace it immediately. The headlight is one of three light bulbs contained within the front headlight assembly on the 2003 Trailblazer model, and you need to remove the lamp housing to access the light. The headlight bulb cannot be separated from its bulb holder; you need to replace the bulb and holder together.

Instructions

    1

Lift the plastic radiator panel off the engine compartment; its fasteners should take a flare-nut wrench or similar. Release the radiator grille's clips on the bottom using a flat-bladed screwdriver and lift the grille off the body.

    2

Pull up the lamp housing's retaining tabs at the top, swing the housing off the vehicle body, remove the parking and side-marker bulb sockets from the housing, disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the housing from the body.

    3

Pull off the headlight's access cover. Reach inside, turn the bulb holder counterclockwise and remove it with the bulb. Unplug the bulb holder's electrical connector.

    4

Connect the electrical connector to the new headlight and bulb holder, insert the holder into the headlamp and turn it clockwise. Do not touch the bulb glass with your bare hands. Close the lamp with the circular access cover.

    5

Reconnect the electrical connectors to the lamp housing and install the parking and side lights, turning them clockwise in the housing.

    6

Line up the lamp's locating pins with the holes in the Trailblazer's front panel. Push the retaining tabs down to lock the headlamp in place.

    7

Install the grille on the truck body, using the clips to fasten it to the headlamps. Install the radiator cover over the grille using its fasteners.
