The Toyota Corolla's Powertrain engine mounts rarely need changing --- only if there is excessive movement on the mounts (you can try to move the mounts with a pry bar or a large screwdriver) or if parts like the rubber have become damaged. The exact replacement process for the driver's side mount may vary depending on the year and engine type of the Corolla.

Engine Support

In addition to raising the Corolla's front end onto jack stands, you need to support the engine as well. You can use the same floor jack that you first raised the car with. Position the jack underneath the oil pan, making sure you don't place it at the drain plug. You also need a wood block on top of the jack to protect the pan. A better option is an engine hoist that supports the motor from above; this can only be found at tool rental yards. Loop the hoist's chain through the hooks on the engine and raise the hoist.

Additional Components

A specific mount may be connected to other components, depending on the engine type within the car. If the car has manual transmission, there is likely a second mount support bracket at the driver's side mount. Unbolt and remove this bracket before removing the mount itself.

Replacement

Each engine mount on the Corolla usually has three to four bolts connecting it to the engine plus one or more bolts/nuts connecting the mount to the engine's support bracket. Remove the engine bolts with your wrench followed by the "through bolts" and nuts connecting the brackets. Install the replacement mount and connect its nuts and bolts, then reconnect the other components (like the second bracket for the manual transmission). Do not lower the floor jack or engine hoist off the motor or the car off the jack stands until you securely install the Corolla's new mounts.
